Warren upheld Georgia’s 6-week abortion ban, which included limited exceptions for rape, incest, or when the mother’s health is at risk. Prior to that ruling, she defended a law as Solicitor General that could have charged doctors with a felony for performing abortions after a fetus is 20 weeks or more, based on the contested claim that fetuses could experience pain at that point. Medical experts said that the law could force women to carry stillborn or badly damaged fetuses to term.
